Technical Excursions

The technical excursions were arranged on Thursday, September 6.

Orivesi Gold Mine


Orivesi gold mine, operated by Outokumpu Mining, is located 35 km NE of the City of Tampere. Annual ore production is 200 kt from underground grading 8.7 g/t gold. The mine is 650 m deep and uses truck hoisting. Mining started from small open pits in 1994 but since 1996 all production has come from underground. The mining method is mechanised bench and fill stoping with 20 m spaced sublevels. After extraction, the ore is taken by truck some 85 km to the Vammala processing plant. The total workforce at the mine site, including contractors, is less than 50 persons.

Metso Minerals - Crushing Equipment Production Plant


Excursion
Technical excursion to the Metso Minerals' plant in Tampere, Finland.

Metso Minerals (former Nordberg Lokomo) is a leading global supplier of rock and minerals processing equipment. The company is part of Metso Corporation, one of Finland's largest industrial conglomerates. Metso Minerals serves all crushing and rock-size reductionrelated industries including aggregate production, quarrying, mining, minerals processing, construction and civil engineering, and recycle crushing. Metso Minerals, the company's manufacturing plant in Tampere, Finland, specialises in the manufacture of jaw and cone crushers and portable and mobile crushing units. In addition to Finland, Metso Minerals has manufacturing plants in France, the USA, Brazil, South Africa, Northern Ireland and China. The company's network of sales subsidiaries covers more than 25 countries.

Sandvik Tamrock - Drill Rig Factory


Sandvik Mining and Construction (SMC) is a world leader in supplying excavation equipment and related services to the mining and civil construction industries. The Sandvik Tamrock Corporation main factory for surface and underground drills is located in the City of Tampere, the facilities include a test mine which, in addition to drill rig research, also serves the needs of Sandvik drill steel development and Toro underground truck and loader automation. SMC has three other factories in Finland as well as manufacturing facilities in Sweden, France, Austria, USA, Canada, South Africa and Australia. The company's sales network has global coverage either through its own subsidiaries or distributors.
