LIBS Imaging devices: LIBS drill core scanner LASOLIBS
Large Area Scanning Open-source Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectrometer(LASOLIBS) is a device designed for LIBS scanning boxes of drill cores, but it can scan any solid samples and any shapes that fit in the device. We would to give full assembly instructions for anyone to build their own LASOLIBS, but documentation is still lacking and it is uncertain if it will ever be finished. On this page I try to explain what LASOLIBS is and show some of the technical documentation.
Most of the results showcased in my texts are produced with LASOLIBS.
A commercial similar device is available from Lumo Analytics (Disclaimer: I am a part-time employee and a shareholder of the company). s The first plans of the device are available at https://www.appropedia.org/LIBSDrillCore_Scanner. The actual device we currently have is much improved and changed, but lacking in proper documentation so this old plan might be of use as well.
Laser Cobolt Tor Xe Pulse Duration: 2.5 ± 1.0 ns Repetition Rate: up to 1kHz Pulse Energy: 500uJ
A version with Cobolt Tor laser was built first and works well as well but the Cobolt Tor Xe version is better because it allows laser pulse triggering and thus one-to-one matching of a laser pulse to a measurement. It also has higher pulse energy which makes measuring transparent materials such as quartz or glass easier.
There's multiple laser providers in the market with other LIBS fitting laser designs as well.
