PHYS-A0140  Aalto Physics - Structure of Matter

Project 2 - Atomic Friction

This is the resource page for the second project in the Structure of Matter part of the Aalto Physics course. The aim of this project is to teach the basics of building and running your own atomic simulations using common scripting tools within the framework of learning about friction at the atomic scale. This project builds on several ideas about the nature of materials and interactions presented in the lectures, while offering a lot of freedom to explore the limits of a computational model.

Overview

The outline of the project is given below, and we encourage all students to read through the different elements. However, this does not necessarily define the order in which the project should be organised - as a group you should decide how to split the tasks according to skills and interests.

Support team

The support team are available on MyCourses and by email (all addresses are of the form firstname.lastname@aalto.fi) for the duration of the project. For all general questions and comments, we strongly prefer you use the MyCourses discussion forums. Others are likely pondering the same things so it benefits all if the discussion is open.
