  • Numeerinen piirisimulointi, mallinnus ja piirisuunnittelumenetelmät, piiriteoria, APLAC-ohjelmisto.

  • I was born on February 7, 1947 in Finland. I received the degrees of Diploma Engineer, Licentiate of Technology, and Doctor of Science (Technology), all in electrical engineering from the TKK Helsinki University of Technology, Otaniemi, Espoo, Finland, in 1970, 1972, and 1975, respectively.

  • After graduation, I held several research and teaching positions in the Academy of Finland, Tampere University of Technology, and TKK Helsinki University of Technology . My main interests covered basic circuit theory, synthesis of mixed lumped/distributed filters and equalizers, branch-guide couplers, and time-domain models for dispersive transmission lines.
  • From 1978 to 1979, I was a Research Fellow of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Twente University of Technology (later University of Twente), where I worked on microwave computer-aided circuit design and broad-band MESFET amplifier design – and learned a lot about a friendly nation and the beauty of tulips.
  • Since 1982, I have been a Professor of Circuit Theory and until the end of 2007 the head of the Circuit Theory Laboratory of TKK. Since 2008, after the re-organization of the internal university structure, I have served as a Professor of Circuit Theory in the Department of Radio Science and Engineering at the TKK Helsinki University of Technology, since 2010 at the School of Science and Technology in the Aalto University, and since 2011 at the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering, engaged in the teaching and research of circuit theory and computer-aided circuit design. I retired in 2013, and today I am Professor Emeritus at Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering.
  • I started to write the APLAC software in 1972 in the former Radio Laboratory of TKK – first as a demonstration program for students – and gradually extended the software with the significant help of a large number of talented researchers and students to a design package, which was released commercially in 1998 as a first product of the start-up company Aplac Solutions, Inc. In 2005 Aplac Solutions was merged with Applied Wave Research (AWR), which furthermore merged with National Instruments (NI) in 2011. Today APLAC is part of the NI AWR Design Environment used worldwide in educational and reasearch institutes as well as in industry.
  • I hate bureaucracy - a word which is as difficult to spell as to pronounce - and its tendency to kill all enthusiasm, creativity, and productivity, and to make all your efforts as difficult as possible.
