Doctoral and postdoctoral positions in medical image computing
Posted on May 31, 2023. Positions open until filled.
The Medical Image Computing group at Aalto University (Helsinki, Finland) is hiring several doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. The exact project topics can be mutually agreed upon, but will generally be aimed at developing new AI methods for automatic segmentation (delineating anatomical structures from 3D medical scans), registration (locally deforming images to match their content), or subject-level prediction (for instance for automatic diagnosis or prognosis).
The group is well-known in the field for developing new methods using generative probabilistic models in particular. We are strongly connected internationally (e.g., with the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Harvard Medical School) and actively contribute to several widely-used open-source software packages (in particular FreeSurfer and SimNIBS). More information about the group can be found by visiting the group leader's webpage, or by watching this informal introductory video.
Your profile:
-
For doctoral researchers: A MSc degree in physics, computer science, electrical engineering or a similar degree.
-
For postdoctoral researchers: A track record in medical image analysis, computer vision or medical physics research as demonstrated by publications in relevant journals and conferences.
-
A strong interest in either new method development (preferably using probabilistic modeling), solving real-world problems that arise in clinical contexts (e.g., analyzing brain scans of preterm babies or brain tumor patients), or both.
-
A high level of perseverance.
-
Good programming skills in Python, Matlab or C++.
-
Good English skills (both oral and written).
We offer:
-
A stimulating environment to work on cutting-edge method development, with ample opportunities for collaborating closely with clinicians, and for traveling to international collaborators (both in Europe and the US).
-
Occupational health care services.
-
Salaries start at around 2,600 EUR/month (for doctoral researchers) and 4,000 EUR/month (for postdoctoral researchers), and increase with seniority.
-
Finland is a healthy and safe living environment, offering many excellent services including affordable day care and free schools and universities. More information about living and working in Finland.
